Back Cecile attended the Portrait Festival at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2001, and as a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists, participated in their international competition.
The Portraitist
Cecile Langham Cothran is an award winning artist whose recent work has been juried into exhibits with competitors from across the Southeast. Oil portraits have been the concentration of her work since the early 90's. One was was chosen for the Charleston Artists Guild's 2000 Signature Exhibit.
Cecile has worked as a commercial artist and has taught children's art. She believes that her own private art lessons as a child prepared the foundation for a lifelong love for the arts. Her formal and independent study of art continued in high school and college. She has a BA in English and Art. Also a writer, she is a regional editor of "South Carolina Homes and Garden" and a former editor of "The South Carolina Gardener."
Cecile was born in Mobile, Alabama, grew up in North Augusta and Columbia, SC. She moved to Charleston as a young artist, taking a position as a staff artisit at the "News and Courier," and met her husband there over thirty years ago. They have lived in the old village of Summerville for over 20 years.
She opened Charleston Art Gallery & Portrait Studio in November, 2002. Note: no space for the text!
